Meadowbrook Park

MEADOWBROOK PARK in Urbana. July 21, 2004 This is a 130-acre park with a difference, beloved by the locals, including us! It has the usual facilities like picnic areas and a large field for ball play. But, the kids’ play structures are different to usual playgrounds – super-sized, and made of wood. Also unusual are the prairie and the Wandell Sculpture Garden, a series of large-scale outdoor sculptures that line the three miles of walking trails. The trails wander through a broad swathe of re-created tallgrass prairie, organic and wildflower gardens. It’s really gorgeous now, at the height of summer. Tall, bright green grasses cover the fields across to the trees ringing the area. But the dominant color is not just green. Wild flowers, massed, swaying slightly in the breeze, attract bees and birds. La Trinitaine and Breton Salt-Butter Biscuits

Good marketing by Cows (on Parade), and What’s in a Name? Biscuits, Galettes, Palets? When we visited Brittany, we stayed first in Vannes, where we first came across some of the Breton and Brittany flags (see post here https://vivscelticconnections.wordpress.com/2020/08/27/flags-of-the-six-celtic-nations/ ), and a red La Trinitaine truck at the harbor. The writing on the truck tells us that it’s a company that produces “Biscuits”, which was founded in 1955. We didn’t buy anything from them at the time, but we already knew what “biscuits” means in that part of France, as we’d tried them around Mont St Michel. They are French butter cookies that melt in your mouth, and many different companies make them. We then moved to the nearby town of Auray and on a day trip out to some ancient ruins, we passed the la Trinitaine factory, advertised by prominent red fiber-glass cows on the grounds in front.
